XU LEI ILLUSTRATES THE LABEL OF CH.TEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD 2008

Every year since 1945, a great artist has created an original artwork for the Chateau Mouton Rothschild label. Thus, the most famous names in contemporary art are brought together in a collection to which a new work is added each year.

The commission to illustrate the 2008 vintage was given to the Chinese painter Xu Lei, born in 1963. His poetic realism combines the cosmic and the intimate, the figurative and the symbolic, his country's pictorial tradition and Western modernity. A resident of Beijing, he is artistic director of the Today Art Museum, an important museum of contemporary art in the Chinese capital.

His drawing for Mouton takes up the classic theme of the ram, the emblem of the chateau. Perched on top of a delicately delineated rock, Xu Lei's ram asserts the role of a great wine as a link between people and cultures, from one hemisphere to the other of "planet wine".

       一直以为付出就会有回报，一直很相信真心待人别人也会真心待你，至少不会骗你～可我错了，都错了，简直太傻了…说我变了是么，我是变了，因为我不想再被人耍着玩了，用不着对不起，没有谁犯错…
       陷在记忆里，曾经迷茫过，迷茫到找不到方向，飞向属于自己那片天空。
       是不是放弃 就不会有伤害；是不是回忆 就不会悲伤；是不是忘记 就不会寂寞…
       二十岁，青春散场、信仰不在，带着伤，我会向前…

intense green yellow, nose of apple pear, refreshing, mid-high intensity, mid-full bodied, a good fruit with a touch of oak, almost unoaked style. some minerality at the finish, warm and mid-long length. 15.5/20

paler, but still deep, purple color, fresh strawberry and violet, cherry, plus vegetal quality. good expressive red fruit on palate, youthful, fruit driven style, slightly spicy at the finish, mid-long 14.5/20

intense inky purple, good intergraded oak nose, with leather, smoke and black cherry black berry. juicy texture, long dark fruit finish with oak. mid-full bodied with high balanced acidity, mid long 15.5/20

5. Dona Dominga Reserva Syrah, 2008

purple, cherry, white pepper, mid-high intensity. some spiciness on mid-palate, mid-full bodied, long shirazy finish spicy. good definition of syrah by relatively suqared. 14/20

nose is elegant,  medium-high intensity, fresh raspberry, rose petal with a gentle kiss of oaky coconut vanilla and mocha. mid-full bodied, tight, oaky fruity flavor is very concentrated, long earthy oaky finish 16/20

black cherry fresh cassis andred currant, oaky spices and liquorice, mid full elegant tannin structure, long and elegant finish 17/20

intense purple, nose is fruity floral youthful intese. smake rose petal plum cassis black cherry quality. high acidity and tannin, balanced focus and mid full bodied. mid long finish. 17/20

9. Casa Silva Petit Verdot Gran Reserva 2008

black fruit, deep, some oak vanilla, full and concentrated tannin structure comes up slowly, silent wine, long finish. 18/20

10. Dona Dominga Cuvee Colchagua, 2008

pronounced oak with earth cassis herbs notes. need time to age, refreshing long elegant finish. 18.5/20

11. Casa Silva Quinta 5 Generacion 2006

45% Carmenere, 30% CS, 15% Syrah, 10 % PV

deep nose, cassis, earth, spice, very gentle and long in the mouth. 18/20

12. Casa Silva Microterroir de Los Lingues Carmenere

nose is elegant, vegetal oak red berry black cherry black berry, long velvety concentrated full with fruity finish, rich and earthy 18.5/20

rich, complex cherry mint, long complex fruit finish with hint of spice. wine for aging. 19/20
