1、Master of Wine, 葡萄酒大师还是葡萄酒硕士？

刚接触这个英文短语的时候就下意识的将其翻译为葡萄酒大师， 从没往硕士这个头衔上想。 不过当阅读某些国内网文的时候，常常看到master of wine被翻译为葡萄酒硕士，登时感觉大煞风景。
经过一番搜索研究，终于确定自己的直觉是对的。

上来第一句就是Master of Wine (MW) is a qualification (not an academic degree) conferred by The Institute of Masters of Wine,   即：master of wine是由葡萄酒大师协会颁发的资格证书(不是学术学位)。 既然master of wine不是学术学位，那这称号也就与硕士学位不沾边，自然应翻译为葡萄酒大师。

同时，Institute of Masters of Wine也不是葡萄酒专家学院，而是葡萄酒大师协会，是一种行业机构，而非教育机构。

Masters of Wine are those who have passed the examinatoins held every May by the Institute of Masters of wine, the wine trade's most famous and most demanding professional qualification. The institute had its origins in the British wine trade in the early 1950s when a counterpart to the qualifying examinations for other professions was devised by a group of wine merchants in conjunction with the vintners' company. the first examination was held in London in 1953 and six of the 21 candidates were deemed to have qulified as Masters of Wine. The Institiute of Masters of Wine was formed in 1955.

The first Master of Wine examinations were held in 1953, under the auspices of the 'Worshipful Company of Vintners' and the 'Wine and Spirits Association', and 6 candidates achieved the standard required to become the first Masters of Wine. The Institute was established as an entity in 1955 and there are now 257 Masters of Wine who comprise its membership. For the first 30 years the annual examination was limited to UK 'traders in wine' (defined as importers, merchants and retailers) but in the 1980s the examination was opened to anyone earning their living in wine world-wide and the first non-UK MW succeeded in the examinations in 1987.

The Institute now has 257 members of 19 different nationalities, living in 21 countries throughout the world. Education seminars and examinations are held in 3 countries, the UK, the USA and Australia. 78 members live and work outside the UK, almost all of whom have become members in the last 12 years.

The road to becoming a Master of Wine involves a great deal of hard work and dedication and we recommend that you are as well prepared as possible before you start. You should have been successful in examinations in wine available to you locally; in the UK and several other countries this means the Diploma offered by the Wine and Spirit Education Trust. Experience in wine making as well as other aspects of the wine industry is also a very useful preparation.

一般要报考葡萄酒大师你必须拥有wset第4级的资格证书(也有例外，如英国的Tim Atkin)，而报考wset4级要求你必须拥有wset第3级证书。 而在国外，如果你想参加酒类行业的考试，你还要年满18岁。理论上讲，4个月可以考出3级,15个月考出4级， 然后通过两年的幸苦准备，如果够幸运，22岁左右可以得到葡萄酒大师这一光环称号，甚至比你得xx硕士称号都要早一些。

花费多少呢？3级600镑左右，4级3000镑左右，葡萄酒大师5300镑左右，等考得葡萄酒大师称号，你至少要花费9000镑左右的学费，当然这还不包括你平时自己品尝葡萄酒，以及去国外考试(国内只有3级的以下的考点)所需的花费。粗略算下来，没个二、三十万人民币甭想。
